There is a lot of opinions on what salt really does to your concrete driveways, sidewalks and patios. Even though concrete is VERY hard it actually can act like a sponge. There are small pores in the concrete that can absorb the salt and allow moisture to get into the concrete. This can make the concrete break apart and create long cracks. Some people that use salt live in climates that are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. This makes the concrete expand and compress which can make the damage from salt worse!
